Taper Notes:
View NotesThis is a series of recordings of Intruder my band from high school. My copies of these tapes were lost in a fire in 1989. Many years later I reconnected with our drummer Mike Cotton and he dug out a box of what he had and converted these to mp3 which was much of what I lost in a fire. Some of these recordings were from our early days in like 1985 but the originals progressed into 1988 here. It was clear that our rehearsals were paying off and we were growing fast as musicians and as a band. The early covers here are very noticeable as we were learning our chops as young teenagers but the "China Grove" and "EZ Come EZ Go" are clearly from a later era. All of the original songs here were written by Eric Cochrane and I. We quickly became a dynamic writing team. I still remember who wrote what in most of these songs...he would come in with something and I would write the bridge or vice versa. Eric was a singer but had learned to play a mean guitar and wasn't comfortable doing both just yet even though he was a tremendous singer. We had various singers in the band including David Hashagen and Phil Stassi who are not on these recordings. Mike Cotton also was very adept at recording with the primitive tools we had. We would often record a track live and then bounce that using a 4 track recorder to add overdubs. Always experimenting. We ended up splitting up in mid 1988 when we all graduated high school and Eric Cochrane and I went on to form a new band while Mike Cotton joined another band. Eric's brother Scott sang with us for a while in the new band. Very tragically Eric passed away in early 1989 in an industrial accident. His talent and memory will never be forgotten and I am very grateful these recordings still exist.
