Taper Notes:
View Notes* = includes Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' [Michael Jackson] Adam "Shmeeans" Smirnoff - guitar Adam Deitch - drums Erick Coombs - bass Eric Krasno - guitar Neal Evans - keys Rashawn Ross - trumpet Ryan Zoidas - saxophone Sam Kininger - saxophone Big Sam Williams - trombone DAT Transfer: 6/24/2019 Tracked: 8/1/2019 Mastered: 10/15/2019-10/20/2019 Recorded, mastered, tracked and posted by Scott Bernstein I painstakingly scrubbed approximately 220(!!!) annoying claps, yells, and whistles which were right near the mics from this recording Taper notes: BARN189 is the flip-side of my previous BARN release (#188) -- this was Lettuce's opening set on the same late-night (post midnight start) bill with Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk (with special guests Trey Anastasio and Eric Krasno plus the Lettuce horns). This is an interesting "middle period" Lettuce -- beyond the early years with Jeff Bhasker -- when they still had Sam Kininger on saxophone and before they hooked up with Nigel Hall. The band must have been on a semi-hiatus at this point, as I can find no recorded evidence of any other Lettuce performances between 12/30/2003 (which I also recorded) and 2008, amazingly! Somehow this is rare performance from the band during a long stretch of non-performance (or at least undocumented performances) with no vocalist and a hugely expanded horn section --notably including the incredible Rashawn Ross on trumpet (who just a few months later was drafted into the Dave Matthews Band), "Big Sam" Williams -- a New Orleans-based trombonist who's gone onto a good amount of fame on his own, and Sam Kininger and Ryan Zoidas -- both of whom were part of the original Lettuce horn section. I'm psyched for you all to hear the awesome funk in this recording -- despite the fact that it's now 14+ years later! Once again, I spent an inordinate amount of time scrubbing out individual over 200 individual loud nearby claps, yells, whistles, etc. from this recording, for all of our listening enjoyment! Enjoy!
