Taper Notes:
View NotesThis show was actually a release party at a craft beer bar/small local band music hall for Kyle's new brew collaboration with Cigar City Brewing in Tampa and his new solo CD, Speed of Life. Kyle spoke to the crowd of about 50 about his 3 beers that were available on tap (he's also collaborated with Boulder Brewing and Stone Brewing) prior to the set, which started with Matt Burke of Tampa's own Have Gun, Will Travel solo acoustic. I spoke with Kyle for a few minutes about beer, music and recording the set. He told me it was cool to record, but that it was really a "Matt Burke set that I'm sitting in on," which I found to be true when Matt started playing before I could make my way from the bar to the music room. As a result, I missed the first song and the second song fades in (Kyle joins in during the 2nd half of the set). It was a fun set that featured songs from HGWT, Kyle's new CD and some covers for good measure with Kyle and Matt sharing vocal duties. Since this was a small room and a beer release party, the crowd was a bit chattier than normal, and it shows on the recording as I had to clip the mics to my hat since there was no room for a stand and full rig. Kyle had some mic issues during the first 2 songs after he joined in that were fixed and the right speaker either cut out at some point (or perhaps was never working to start), but it came back on towards the end of the set.
