View Notes*Various level tweaks due to soundboard adjusts on source, brief dropout at 0:20 Re-Mastered with Izotope Ozone (10/06/2002) by Stitt I decided that my previously seeded version of the 7/11/02 State Theater show was just too quiet and compressed sounding for playback in the car and on portables which are more unforgiving with a quiet signal than the living room hi-fi. while, i strongly adhere to the purist ethic that live recordings should remain as faithful as possible to the sound generated at the event, sometimes the recordings obtained just don't do justice. in this case, the soudboard recording was heavily lacking in the bass regions, probably due to the fact that the theater was boomier than usual as most folks were sitting down (like the band :-) instead of soaking up the waves in front of the stage. also, the overall signal level was pretty low and had to be normalized anyway. unfortunately, the previous normalization increased the already loud drums, creating a rather uneven overall mix when cranking the volume. THEREFORE, i have painstakingly "remastered" the original recording, trying no less than 3 completely different mixes before being satisfied with the newest one. basically, i pumped up the bass, guitars and vocals in the EQ and maximized the loudness without adding any distortion. while the soundboard mix showed very little stereo separation, i decided not to mess with the 'imaging' as doing so may sound a bit more wide open through headphones, it tends to lose that 'live immediancy' on the hi-fi soundstage. i hope those of you that enjoyed the original will take the time and give a listen to the remaster. if you find this unacceptable for some reason, there's plenty of copies of the origninal out there for you to obtain. just compare it to the previous seed and i think you'll find that it comes a lot closer to recreating the feel of that already fantastic show.
