View NotesJon Langford: vocals, guitar Phil Wandscher: lead guitar Alan Doughty: bass Joe Camarillo: drums Martin Billheimer: harmonica, vocals, yowling Sally Timms: vocals on tracks 5-10 Jon Langford is in approximately 143 bands now, and just about all of them have performed at Hardly Strictly at one point or another. Bad Luck Jonathan is a new agglomeration featuring Alan Doughty and Joe Camarillo from the Waco Brothers, Phil Wandscher from Whiskeytown, Martin Billheimer from Chicago's Pritzker Military Museum and Library (that's not a band, it's a military museum), and special guest vocalist Sally Timms, from just about every other band Jon has even been in. First three tracks are new so far as I know, next five are from various Langford solo records, and "Memphis, Egypt" is, of course, the Mekons' signature tune about capitalism, puberty, and rock 'n' roll. I wasn't at this show, but watched the live video stream, which really should be watched if only because, oh, lord, those suits. (It's at http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/2014/webcast/archive.html.) The mix was fairly terrible on the stream, so thankfully Todd L was present to record, getting a really nice clean recording with very little crowd noise. He passed his recording along to me (neil d), and I reduced the bass slightly, reduced some instances of close clapping, and repaired a couple of digital clicks, then split into files, and now to you!
