Taper Notes:
View NotesKevin Kinsella is announced as being absent from this show Chris "C-Money" Welter - keys and trumpet (would go on to join Slightly Stoopid) Alexander "AB" Beram - trombone Daniel "DeLa" Delacruz on A (would go on to join Slightly Stoopid) Nathan "Silas" Richardson - guitar Scott Palmer - bass Tom Benedetti - drums Elliot Martin (assumed, as he did the band intros) - vocals (Thanks to Bill Mulvey for helping me to figure out the trombone player's name) Note: the audio mix changes drastically about 3 minutes into the recording, but I took some time and effort to apply an EQ to make both parts sound more similar. Mastered by Scott Bernstein 4/15/2012; Tracked 12/11/2019; Additional mastering 10/17-23/2024; Posted 11/11/2024 Taper notes: And now for something completely different, here's some great roots reggae from the band John Brown's Body from the moe.down festival in 2004. I can only find recordings of seeing John Brown's Body twice over the years (though I have this sneaking suspicion that I saw them at The Knitting Factory once)...and I can't say that I have any memories of this set at all (or from the other time I saw them at High Sierra Music Festival in 2002), but apparently JBB were a very influential roots reggae band from the early 2000s. In particular they seem to have been a huge influence on the band Slightly Stoopid -- who actually absorbed 2 horn players from JBB into their lineup). From reading up on their Wikipedia page, at this point the band was about to embark on a huge change in their membership and direction...and it is announced from the stage that Kevin Kinsella -- primary songwriter and lead vocalist is inexplicably absent from this show. No matter, this is still a great performance. This particular recording is one that I made up front at the moe.down festival -- much closer that the other tapers and right in the middle of the action at the moe.down festival. You can really FEEL the bass on this one and it's very clean and crystal clear. (It also meant that I had to scrub out a whole mess of nearby crowd noise using Steinberg Spectralayers -- but I was able to remove it very cleanly as if it had never been there. I will do my best to locate the 2002 JBB recording and post that recording at some point...(It seems to be paired on a tape with another set from the festival, but I haven't located that one in my archives yet).
