Sector 9, Ulu, Conehead Buddah, Blindman's Sun, and the Living Daylights all played the previous night. Oteil Burbridge and/or Butch trucks sat in with most of the bands. Taper notes: BARN88 features Jiggle The Handle, an awesome band that sadly also flew under the radar for most people and never really achieved much of a name for themselves outside of the New England area. What a shame that was, as anyone who listens to this set can tell -- this band kicked some ass! Seriously, of all of the bands that I hardly recall that played these nights, I think this might be my favorite. The star of this band was Gary Backstrom, the guitarist. You'll hear the sparks flying early and often (and the unintented feedback) from his amp. Picture some rockin' allmans-style guitar, a very present bassist who has no qualms about slapping, good songs, and great jams. Seriously this set, short as it is, leaves me wanting MUCH more. Unfortunately this is only one of 2 times I got to see them, and they were both short opening sets. I never got to see this band play a full show. Look for another set from these guys (as it was stashed away on the same DAT tape so it got to "come along for the ride"), plus one more set from this jambands.com showcase night -- from Lake Trout coming soon!
