Taper Notes:
View NotesBilled as "An Evening of Acoustic Music & Improv"; the band brought improv artist Connor Ratliff of Upright Citizens Brigade, violinist Bridgid Bibbens and cellist Rebecca Chung Filice on tour with them. Connor acted as master of ceremonies, bringing the band on stage one by one, decorating the front of the stage area with giant candles from the prop room, adding to the between-songs banter, and pulling sticky notes out of a fishbowl for the band to riff on between sets. The musical performance was entirely seated, though not entirely acoustic; songs with an asterisk featured Bridgid and Rebecca on their respective instruments except for Window, which Bridgid performed alone, and the finale, on which they played shaker and percussion. Due to the seated nature of the show, I ran at head height so as not to obstruct anyone, so the recording is a bit lacking in treble at times. Some of the louder applause early on overloaded the preamp briefly, but a slight level adjustment later fixed that. Also, Ryan sang directly into my microphones during "Overexcited" while roaming through the house on his wireless mic adventure. Many thanks to all who came up to say hi to me on this first night of my solo adventure, with special thanks to Jill and Rob Whitham for being my local companions and hosts!
