View Notes* with Keytar Bear Guster played at various locations in Boston in celebration of the release of their new album, <i>Evermotion</i>, as well as the proclamation by Mayor Marty Walsh that January 15th would be known as "Guster Day" in the city of Boston. The band announced that they would be doing outdoor "pop up sets" throughout the morning and early afternoon, and sent out the locations via Twitter and Facebook. Crowds ranged from 50 or so in Allston to a few hundred at South Station, Harvard Square and Copley Square. They then played a set at WBUR studios (which has been <a href="https://archive.org/details/Guster2015-01-15.BostonRadioOn90.9" rel="nofollow">recorded and posted elsewhere</a>) before topping off the day with a brief set at the <a href="http://www.cityofboston.gov/news/default.aspx?id=17930" rel="nofollow">Greenovate Launch Celebration</a> event later that night. I was fortunate enough to get the schedule beforehand, and had the pleasure of following them around from the 8:00 South Station set until the conclusion of their Copley Square set at 1:30, and it was a blast every step of the way. My heartfelt thanks to the band for continuing to delight (and tolerating our taping), their management for arranging it and tipping a few of us off ahead of time, the crew for braving the elements on a crazy day, Keytar Bear for being Keytar Bear, my impromptu travel buddies Brian and V for ride sharing and keeping me company, and my wife for scoring a pair of hard-to-get tickets for the evening performance. Recording notes: All of the pop-up sets were played outdoors, so there is a preponderance of sound associated with being outside in downtown Boston. However, I was lucky to be no further than 10-15 feet from them while recording, so the sound is surprisingly good. At the evening show, where I set up in the back so as not to interfere with a video camera rig, the sound is less than stellar. Also, my battery pack ran out near the end of the Copley Square set, so the beginning of Endlessly is missing (ironic).
