Taper Notes:
View NotesNotes: The SBD source had digital noise reduction applied via Jim Wise, but it seems less caustic than on 2/28 - in particular, the first set on 2/28 has a slightly more brittle sound, due in part to hotter vocals. SBD levels were reduced shortly after the beginning of Feel Like A Stranger to compensate for some initial loud vocals. Some soundboard mix fluctuations occur a little later in the song, with Jerry's guitar becoming softer, in and out, for much of the song. The matrix helps smooth these issues out. Althea had some initial soundboard low level and mix fluctuations before the first verse, which we adjusted both SBD and AUD levels for (up or down gradually) to help smooth things out. SBD mix fluctuations also occur early on in Little Red Rooster. Mason B. Taylor's recording, #128750 (5/19/14), patches 4:20 of Drums in Glassberg's tape, with 3 seconds still missing at the end of the patch. A few tiny cuts in Feel Like A Stranger and GDTRFB are now patched in the SBD. One of the best China Riders of 1981! Up there with the one in Boulder.

Recorded By Mason Taylor on a Sony D5 Cassette Deck, on chrome tapes, with Nakamichi microphones; Transferred on a Nak Cr7A
Taper Notes:
View Notes"Mason B. Taylor was a taper from Chicago that recorded concerts by many bands in the Chicagoland area and on Dead tours. He used a Nakamichi 550 with Nakamichi 300 mics with shotgun capsules for most of his earlier recordings. In later years he used Sony D-5 and Sony D-3 cassette recorders with Nakamichi 300 mics. Mason captured spectacular musical moments and loved to share them with his closest friends. In honor of Mason and all the love he put into his recordings we are now able to share these moments with those who can appreciate them most. As the shows get uploaded we would love for you to share your stories about the epic times the music evokes so we can all dial back into that moment when the magic was happening. Thanks to Mason’s family and his Chicago and Cleveland friends for opening up Mason’s Jar…"
