We gathered every available source, found a few more that had new material, and organized them. - That was a lot more work than it sounds like. It was worth it. - Most of the sources trace back to safety tapes and band member listening tapes made by Steve Brown during the sessions. - Some were made by other crew members, and one very fine tape is via Ned Lagin. - They come through various signal chains but are all studio session recordings. - We know that many more exist but do not circulate. There are likely even more we don't know about. If you have some, hit us up. - They come to us via the efforts of many members of the taping and trading community, who are listed and thanked in the PDF file credits. - The existing filesets we drew on were, by and large, very thoughtfully prepared, and were documented as well as could be hoped. - However in aggregate they were incredibly confusing and hard to enjoy. This was mostly due to incorrect date info, incorrect track titles, and massive duplication of material. - We eliminated 35% of the material as duplicative (from 40+ hours to just under 26) with some performances duplicated 4 or 5 times, and with different start and stop points, in wildly varying quality. - Jesse Jarnow provided a framework of research derived from his Deadcast work which allowed us to correct many date attributions and properly title and classify much of the material. - The result is a chronological ordering of the material in the order it was recorded, with extensive notes as to those date attributions and our confidence in them. - We hope the community will find this collection to be much more approachable than the previous disordered situation was. - Some of the material in this collection is only of interest to completists and researchers, but more of it than you might think is astonishing, spectacular - especially if you like it weird. - A smaller, but still large, curated collection entitled Angels In Flame is being circulated alongside this Complete Collection. - Both collections will have a permanent home at the blog of project team member John Hilgart: https://saveyourface.posthaven.com/ - If you need to get in touch with us, you can reach Tyler at [email protected]; all other team members have various kinds of internet presence you can easily find. - This material was first presented at the 2026 Grateful Dead Studies Association meeting in Albuquerque NM - This info file exists to comply with etree, Lossless Legs and archive.org standards.
