Show Notes: Tonight was a testement to blind faith. STS9 played at First Avenue this fine evening and there was no way I was going to miss that BUT I also am committed to not losing any GJ shows and Javier Trejo Trio opening as well SO I came down early.. set up my rig and left. 2.5 hours later a friend of mine hit record and I was back after 2/3 sets to continue the work and tear down. All went well :) SO being that I didn't hear much of the show myself I'll once again include Rasta's review (he who pressed record) for your benefit. Begin Ross: It was a cold, cold night on the tundra. Between the weather and Sound Tribe playing at First Ave there wasn't much of a crowd at all for Javier Trejo's opening set. That's really too bad, because he brought the heat! I'm continually impressed with Jav as a performer ~V it doesn't matter if there are 3,000 people there or just three, he's going to give it all he's got and put on one hell of a show. His bass player was really on fire last night, too, working the fretless wonder like an extension of his own hands. The crowd started to filter in a bit more by the time GJ got started with Japan Song, which is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Things took a big turn toward heavy jamming when they leapt into The Squirms II with a vengeance. There was a killer jam on the way out that led us into Oliver. And then that took off, too! Pace was a welcome breather after those two, but that didn't last. Even Long Past Gone got into the swing of things with an impressive jam on the back end. They followed that up with a fairly standard Pork Roll and then went right back to the big jamming. This was a stellar Who Am I that didn't seem to want to let go, and they rocked it right up to 12:30 when they took a set break. By the time the second set got started, STS9 had let out and the floor was filling up fast. It was a great time for Have A Cigar as it really got everyone up and moving again in the still-chilly Cabooze. Lonely Girl followed that up, but did so with (you guessed it) yet another surprising jam in the bridge. Then Scott Allen joined the guys on stage to sing Girlfriend Is Better. I've seen him play drums and bass before, but I didn't know he could sing so well. There was a little Barracuda tease as they led into On The Run, and then they closed out the second set with a rather extended run through Triscuit. And, of course, another hot jam (or really, three of them). They came back for a blazing rendition of Ramble On for the encore that just ripped. That was enough to keep me warm all the way home~E Thanks again for another great night at the Cabooze! -Rasta
