But every so often Mike Clark (who, while not on the first Headhunters record DID play in the band with Herbie Hancock on their 2nd album) who has become the bandleader gets his version of The Headhunters (which includes original member Bill Summers, also famous for being in War and Los Hombres Calientes) together for a tour. This time around he included the legendary George Porter Jr. on bass! Being one of my favorite bassists in the world, and just an overall awesome dude, I HAD to come out to this show at the Knitting Factory and see George playing funky jazz music. And this show did not disappoint! In addition to the seemingly normal Headhunters repertoire, they gave some space to George to do his thing in a medley at the end of the show. So for BARN161 I present to you a Mike Clark-led, George Porter-augmented funky jazz session from the now-departed Knitting Factory here in NYC. The crowd is ROWDY but doesn't intrude on the music much (after I've cleaned it up a bit) and I think you'll find this to be very groovy/funky! Enjoy!!!
