Original Master Recording: Scheops CMC64 -> Sonosax -> Teac DAP-20 (@16/48) DAT playback: Sony R-500 -> Sound Devices 722 digital input (@24/48) Mastered: Soundforge Pro 10.0c - *All file manipulation in Soundforge done at 24 bits*. Sample rate conversion 48khz to 44.1khz using iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter. 24 bit file then processed with SOX 14.3.2 (as recommended, keeping the file at 24 bits during the processing) to remove pre-emphasis which was applied by the Teac A>D converter. Then back to Soundforge for volume normalization and dithering to 16 bits using using iZotope MBIT+ with Ultra noise shaping, with high dither settings. Tracked in CDWav.
Taper Notes:
View NotesRemoved a few random loud claps in T3,4,6,8,11,12 Coby Brown Group, Donna The Buffalo, The Recipe and then The Big Wu played. Miracle Orchestra played all night between the sets of the upstairs bands in the lounge downstairs. I believe that this was a Phoenix Records showcase night. BARN91 represents what seems to be the only time I have ever seen Donna The Buffalo (though I do feel like I have seen them at least one other time, I can't turn up any recorded evidence), and frankly I had little recollection of them. So what do they sound like? By some odd quirk of geography, they are a Cajun/Zydeco band from near Ithaca, NY -- not Louisiana as you might expect. Tara Nevins, one of the vocalists (and also accordion, fiddle, and washboard player) sang in the BK3 with the Grateful Dead's Bill Kreutzmann a few years back, and I was lucky enough to see her sing a few tunes at Mike Gordon's Birthday party at City Winery around then. This band has been around a long time and appears to be the "last band standing" from this night, as they seem to be the only band still actively touring today. This depletes my stash of recordings from this long (and long-ago) night at Wetlands and completes a little 10 entry jump back to Wetlands in the late 90s for the BARN series. Trust me, there will be a LOT more Wetlands recordings in the BARN series in the future, though I'm going to focus on a few other things coming next. Enjoy!
