View NotesRoger Lewis - baritone+soprano sax, flute Terence Higgins - drums Richard Knox - keys Efrem Towns - trumpet Revert Andrews - trombone Julias McKee - bass, sousaphone Kevin Harris - tenor sax This was an opening set for Galactic I scrubbed about 45 loud local yells, whistles, and claps from this recording for all of our enjoyment Recorded, transferred (5/12/2012), tracked (11/15/2019), and mastered (11/28/2019), and posted (11/28/2019) by Scott Bernstein Taper notes: Digging back into the recordings of New Orleans music that I love, for BARN199, I present a fun little set from a band that has achieved the status of a New Orleans institution at this point -- The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. I've seen them quite a number of times over the years, and they are always so much fun to see. They are a NOLA flavored mix of traditional New Orleans style jazz and funk that will definitely get you up and dancing, and lots of bands that I also love (Widespread Panic, The Meters, Galactic to name a few) have brought them out on tour to open for them, and this is one of those gigs -- an opening slot for Galactic on their night-before-Halloween show at Irving Plaza in 1999. Their set mixes originals and cover songs -- but they really make the cover songs their own too. Hope you enjoy this one!
