Taper Notes:
View NotesIt was a rough night in the taper trenches. All was going well as I was setting my levels for the first couple of songs. Shortly before I was about to close the protective lid at exactly 15:05.842 the bozo behind and above me spilled his entire beer on all my gear. I turn around as the back of my knees are splashed down with beer. I see my Sony M10 in a sudsy puddle of beer and the D5 is soaked top to bottom. The wetness went all the way to the bottom of the case. The M10 was visibly glitching out and showing blank screen. The lights were dim on the left side and I figured the deck was ruined and nothing was recording. It was a direct hit! I spent the entire set from that point on trying to dry out the contents of my taping gear (only the mics were spared as they were 9' up on top of the stand safe from...) I digress... When I got home I put all my equipment in separate bags of rice. Around noon I tried the deck out and it worked and acted normal! As you can see from this submission, to my surprise the deck was still recording and in fact functioning fine. I had to cut out 06.452 of Franklin's at 15:05.842 at the original spill point in time the deck wasn't processing info and again at 15:52.859 of Franklin's Tower I had to cut 20.917 as there was no signal being processed due to spill. For set two I had put my old Sony D8 DAT deck in the line in front of the M10 (I wasn't sure it was working) and the old girl gave out during Wharf Rat which cut the signal to the M10. Thus, no Wharf Rat was recorded. I am bummed about this as it was a specifically wonderful version and a highlight of the night (sorry!) So, although I was bumming about it all night, the recording, all in all, came out well and I hope you enjoy it with a smile as it was played by the band. Next, an alcohol rub down for all the gear, wow can you say "sticky mess"... Special Thanks to Tyler for his help, support and encouragement! Peace, MVB
