View Notes* = w/Ani DiFranco and Andy Stochansky Recorded by Scott Bernstein & Eric Vandercar (thanks to Lisa Bernstein for the assist in sneaking the gear in). Mastered and tracked by Scott Bernstein, July 2009. Dan opened for Ani DiFranco at this show This is installment #7 in my BARN (Bernstein Archive Restoration) series. After a little break, I have picked up again with this show, the first time I ever saw Dan Bern perform live. I had already been hearing him for quite a while on WFUV and was familiar with the songs that they had in rotation and had even heard him perform in the studio right around this time, so I was primed to see him. Being a pretty big Ani fan at the time, this was the perfect opportunity to finally see Dan. Of course we had to stealth-record with mics in a hat as Ani doesn't allow open taping. I wondered how Ani's crowd would take to Dan, and he played it perfectly -- he knocked the ball out of the park by opening with Tiger Woods (I mean starting his show belting out "I've got big balls!" to a crowd that was probably 90% female certainly took some big balls in and of itself) and once he bowled them over, he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. Perfect song selection for the night, and a guest sit in by Ani and Andy sealed the deal. So now nearly 12 years later, I present the definitive version of this show to you, cleaned up as best I could (by removing a whole bunch of LOUD nearby claps in the early part of the show) and leveling out the volume a bit.
