But it will also be a some songs like St Cajetan or One Fine Day that define the bands sound, although these may be quite familiar and old hat to our hardcore fans. Finally we try (and i emphasize try) to throw in one song that we don't normally play, although in chicago the set was just so short we didn't do this. If we are the headliner at a sort of "festival" or event we have more lattitude. Kansas City Crossroads the night before was a good example. we got to play for nearly 2 hours. despite the fact a lot of the 4000 or so people there did not really know our songs, we had much more lattitude in playing tracks off of all the records. and we had the time to play a couple of what have come to be known as "sound-off songs", rarely played but highly requested songs. e.g. "sick of goodbyes", "let's go for a ride" and "nostalgia". But practically speaking we were still playing catering to a general audience. However our fans in baton rouge, jonesboro, little rock and even st. louis got the benefit of us playing these festival type events. At these shows we could really cater to our hard core fans, and play a wider variety of our catalogue. Nobody in st louis commented upon this but we played kerosene hat almost in it's entirety (no title track,no i ride my bike). because there are so many festival type events in chicago, that city actually get's shortchanged on the club shows. that is why this year after before flavor fest we put in a club show at McCauliffe's Pub in Racine WI. Yes i know it's a little bit of a drive, but it's as close as we could get to chicago without violating our contract.
