Taped by MC from the centre aisle of the third row Transferred to DVD by KW (thanks!) and ripped/flac'd by boombox * - with John Roberts (promoter) on spoons ^ - with JR & Dave Allen (of Reet Petite & Gone) on washboard boombox's notes may 2005: I'd asked Joe and John on the Sunday if the show was definitely going ahead - there were rumours of only 7-8 tickets having been sold due to poor publicity, but having been assured it was on, it was with eager anticipation that we set off in torrential rain for Banbury, armed with a new DV camera. The weather meant we arrived later than hoped and contrary to what we'd been told by the venue, it was ticketed on a seating plan, so we missed out on the front row. However, the aisle seat turned out to be perfect as my mate was able to rest the camera on his knee; it was his first attempt at taping and when I can eventually seed/ trade the DVD, you'll see that!! However, despite any wobbly camera shots, this didn't impact upon the sound, which is clear throughout, though there is some very minor clipping. The only song where the sound is poorer is Save The Whales - the crowd around us sang and clapped very loudly, along with my mate's 16 year old son, who *really* went for it with the clapping!!! Levels are slightly overloaded on this song as a result. I've added fades to the beginning/end of each set and tried to balance out the crowd volume a bit. The encore was on a different tape - Joe had two other guitars ready, which he hadn't used, and we didn't want to get caught out by a long encore. No music was missed during changeover. This is a very laid-back show; Brighton had been a very in-your-face show with the audience up close. Here, Joe could really relax. As a result, the banter is as entertaining as the music. An explanatory note is needed for Disc 2 Track 05: JR brought out his spoons in a "flight case" aka a model guitar case. Fans of Bob Dylan and/or English folk music are also invited to skip the banter after Submarine!! ;-) Please respect the wishes of the taper and keep this strictly for trade only. Enjoy and share freely!!
