View NotesCandlebox was co-headlining this festival w/ Local H. Set times were as follows: LOCAL H : 7:30pm - 9:00pm CANDLEBOX : 9:30pm - 11:00pm The concert took place in the Toyota Park parking lot. Due to a soccer game going on at the same time, the traffic was pretty bad. I arrived an hour later than planned. Thankfully I knew some people who were in the first row of fold up seats (back from the 'pit' area) in front of the stage. They kindly allowed me to setup my rig directly facing the right stack in their row. They even moved for me! Thanks, guys. Halfway into "Stand", the skies opened and it started raining on us. It started getting heavier during "Cover Me". At this point, I almost stopped and packed up my gear, but I decided to keep rolling. The mics were clipped to the sides of my spacebar (atop my stand), so I taped some bubble wrap (dont ask why I even had this) to the top ends of the spacebar covering the mics and keeping them dry. Now, you will hear rain drops if you listen closely, but Im very lucky this happened to work out. I then covered my gear with a windbreaker I happened to bring in. I got soaked in the process, but the tape turned out pretty decent. During "Far Behind" (around the 0:55 mark) the stage crew started covering the stacks with blue tarp. You will notice the sound changes, not much I could do about that. It still sounds decent with the drenched crowd singing every word! Because of the rain, Candlebox's set was cut short by about 15 minutes. I know they were supposed to play "Sweet Summertime" and one or two others. No big deal, they gave it their all and kept going for the fans regardless of the weather. Seeing as these are 2 of my favorite bands, this was a very special night! Both were great, I highly recommend giving both sets a listen front to back. photos courtesy of Sara Krejci, except images 4 & 5.
