SOURCE / LINEAGE Stereo AUD 2nd GEN (speed corrections from master) Borrowed mics > Borrowed Sony WM-D6 > Master tape > 1st dub > 2nd dub > Computer WAV > Cool Edit Pro 2000 > TLH v2.4.1 > FLAC 8 > DIME > you I don't have the specific model for the mics, but the buddy from which I borrowed the gear (thanks K!) said they cost approx. US$500. Mics were physically separate left / right channel lines which fed back to a single stereo line into the deck. The left / right lines were either pinned over each shoulder facing stage, or pinned to left/right sides under an open-holed baseball cap. 2 dubs were done to attempt speed adjustments to my flawed master (see below). I originally mastered this 2001-09-07 off the 2nd gen & retained the original WAV fileset. In 2001 I think the only thing I did on the computer was place track marks before each piece. Here in 2009 I used Cool Edit to try to fix the pitch of those 2001 WAVs (see below). This FLAC fileset comes directly from those adjusted WAVs's, which only needed SBE corrections in TLH; no CD-Rs or EACs. NOTES As this is an original master & isn't too bad to start with, please DON'T remaster and repost it. - - - - I make no bones about this one; it's far from perfect, but at least now it's mostly listenable. If you're an audiophile, you may wanna pass on this one. I had MAJOR issues with battery power running down / post-show playback of course had speed problems - too fast. Back when I did my original 2001 master, I had worked with a friend who had a deck that could allow speed adjustments. I let my buddy dub it off to another tape while performing a first-level of speed adjustments as we listened to it real-time. A second dub back on top of my original master (dumb!) did a second-level of speed adjustment plus some corrections for balance. (Ouch, if only I had saved the source - but I had no idea that computers would later come & make it easier to deal with such issues.) My 2001 master was done off of this 2nd gen tape source. Recently I dug this up again for further review; following the earlier speed corrections, the tempo sounded ok but not the pitch. I ran each file through Cool Edit, doing a "pitch shift of a ratio of 103", knocking the pitch down a touch while preserving the tempo. The result here is something that at least begins to sound like the real show. It's surely not perfect for every single second, but now it's not just "better than nothing", it's listenable. I've got other CVB shows too; if you wanna hear more, leave a comment. - - - - I had this in my trade list for years, and I don't think anyone ever picked it. Beyond that, it's only been heard by a few friends, and so this is likely its debut to most folks. Crank it up and ENJOY! it as I have, and share it so others can hear it. - - - - You already read about the headaches with the source tape, but the location also posed its own challenges. "Live in the streets" - a bunch of city blocks were sealed off, some stages were set up *IN* the streets, and CVB played on one. If you wanted to check 'em out, you hadta stand in the streets too - no seats. People were milling about more than for a typical concert, from one bar or eatery to another, frequently getting in one's way. And not everyone there was a fan (free event), so there's lots of talkers and yelling and whatnot pretty much throughout. There are noticeable spots where one channel fades / returns, or transitions from crisp / muddy / crisp, due to people walking past or blocking me for a spell. There's an edit between tracks 17 & 18 to flip the tape; the first couple of seconds of #18 are missing. There's also an edit just before & after the encore; all that's missing in those spots is a minute or two of clapping. Speaking of... I clap. Sorry. At least there's no talking from me or the people I was there with. And I leave everything in, warts and all - tuning, the band talking between songs, the claps before the encore & at the end. - - - - I mark the start of tracks when the music or count-in begins, not the talking about it before it starts. - - - - The usual schmack applies here: Please don't post this anywhere but DIME. Please retain this original info file data with any reseedings. Please don't transfer to MP3 or other lossy formats. Please only trade this with others, don't sell it. Please support the artists involved by purchasing their official product in massive quantities. length expanded size cdr WAVE problems fmt ratio filename 0:32.63 5793020 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t01.flac 3:31.63 37368620 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t02.flac 3:14.61 34365116 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t03.flac 3:19.47 35214188 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t04.flac 3:21.29 35524652 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t05.flac 2:59.43 31676780 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t06.flac 4:21.02 46045148 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t07.flac 2:10.02 22936748 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t08.flac 3:39.53 38756300 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t09.flac 1:35.54 16885052 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t10.flac 2:23.17 25265228 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t11.flac 2:02.13 21551420 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t12.flac 5:37.27 59510348 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t13.flac 2:49.43 29912780 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t14.flac 2:06.69 22388732 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t15.flac 4:07.65 43723724 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t16.flac 2:38.53 27995900 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t17.flac 3:06.09 32831612 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t18.flac 5:22.55 56930204 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t19.flac 4:32.14 48013772 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t20.flac 3:32.41 37493276 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t21.flac 3:18.11 34953116 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t22.flac 1:29.46 15807836 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t23.flac 0:45.02 7942748 B --- -- ---xx CVB1988-07-17t24.flac 72:38.57 768886320 B 0.5386 (24 files)
