Taper Notes:
View Notes* = w/"Purple Rain" quotes in guitar solo + = w/"The Ants Go Marching One By One" keyboard solo ^ = w/additional "turn on your WOO light" lyrics # = I'm not 100% sure of this song title, but it sure sounds a lot like the song on his 2010 album "I Don't Even Know". Happy to correct if someone comes up with a better title Total time: 2:10:45 Project Logic (DJ Logic) was the opening band at this show, and my recording of that set can be heard here: https://archive.org/details/DJLogic1999-05-29.tlm170.flac16-48 Introduced musicians (though there may have been others): Bernie Worrell - keys Catherine Russell - vocals (starting at track 5) Michael "Moon" Reuben - guitar Joseph Anthony "Amp" Fiddler - keys Gabe Gonzales - drums Donna McPherson - bass Recorded by Scott Bernstein Transferred (5/17/2012), tracked (9/10/2019), mastered (6/24-25/2024) and posted (6/26/2024) by Scott Bernstein Taper notes: For BARN260, we step away from the deep dives that I took into old Dan Bern and God Street Wine recordings and I bring you something completely different -- an unheard steaming slab of funk. This music performed by an A+ group of musicians lead by the legendary "Wizard of Woo" (keyboard wizard and author or co-author of many songs from Parliament+Funkadelic and touring musician with Talking Heads who has now passed on), Bernie Worrell. It doesn't get any better than this. The setlist is a mix of Parliament/Funkadelic songs, a Praxis tune ("Seven Laws of Woo" -- rarely performed by anyone), Bernie solo songs, and even a choice Talking Heads cover. This recording was just sitting around waiting for me to finish it up after I posted 2 other Bernie Worrell shows back in late April, 2012. It needed a small bit of polishing (somewhat loud yells/whistles/claps from the crowd and some feedback from the PA), and I put it away, intending to finish it up soon, but somehow never got around to the final polish until Bernie came up in recent discussion, and I got motivated to finish this up. Due to the delay, we all get to benefit as I have recently become somewhat proficient with a new set of tools (Spectralayers Pro) which does a MUCH better job at allowing me to scrub yells, whistles, etc. as if they were never present in the recording at all -- so that's a bonus for all of us! I believe that you will agree this show was WELL worth the wait (12 years since I started working on it, 25 years since I recorded it...) and are ready to "get funked up" with the Woo Warriors.
