View NotesBéla Fleck & the Flecktones were one of my top 3 favorite acts of the festival. They are all so talented, and this is the first the original lineup has played as a band since 1992. The crowd was very pleased by the band, just dancing away in the scorching heat. I held an umbrella the entire set in order to shade myself, that's how hot it was. I wasn't going to take any risks, I needed to last the whole weekend. So it was interesting to only have one free hand to record with. I can see myself on the official footage from this show when the camera pans out to the crowd. I didn't take any pictures of Béla Fleck or many in general because I knew there'd be a decent supply shared on the WWW. I knew these guys wouldn't dissapoint, but I was more than pleased with what they played. During Big Country there was a scetch artist drawing the band, and some of their work was filmed live and shown on the big screen on the left side of the stage. Someone had a big stake with a Pee-Wee doll attached to the top as if it had been impailed, and was bouncing it to the beat of the music at points. This was briefly shown on the big screen also. Listen for the crowd's reaction when Victor Wooten did a 360∞ pivot while his bass floated in the air, then tossed it backwards at the end of Sinister Minister. I enjoy their new songs just as much as their old songs, its amazing how original the material stays. The songs they played off of Rocket Science sound much better and free formed. This is a band worth seeing more than once! Perfect length for a CD, so share it around. It's good stuff!
