View NotesAcid Mothers Temple April 21st, 2013 DC9 Washington, D.C. Source: Roland Edirol R-09 (onboard mics, low-cut on, AGC off) > WaveLab (Puncher (low density, 75% effect, 0% output gain) + SL-1 StereoExpander (100%) + levels normalized (channels de-linked to correct slight imbalance)) > CDWAV (tracks split and saved as .FLAC level 8 ) > foobar2000 (ReplayGain) Location: House rear-center, near soundboard Taper: ZaPenguin (zappa.penguin(AT)gmail.com or http://db.etree.org/ZappaPenguin) Soundman: Randy, headhunted away from the now-shuttered Red Palace. SOUND QUALITY: A-. A bit plastic-y, I'd like a bit more Tsuyama, and the drums even occasionally submit to the heavysonic tour-de-force of Kawabata's guitar, but there's no distortion to be heard. With a bit of EQ this would probably sound much better. The venue's knob-guy did a great job here with what he had to work with. Not my favorite taping-location for DC9, but the best I had available. As a bonus, the mics were close to the merch table of one of the openers, thus providing some rare crowd chatter from the usually-quiet Dynamite Children of D.C. Overall I'd say this is better in-club sound, worse mic location than the Philly show I recorded. THE BAND: Tsuyama Atsushi: monster bass, voice, cosmic joker Tabata Mitsuru : guitar, maratab Higashi Hiroshi: synth, guitar, voice, dancin'king Shimura Koji: drums, latino cool Kawabata Makoto: guitar, voice, speed guru TRACK LIST: CD1 [34:01] 01. Skilfiul Grinning Skull [9:24] Notes: Track 08's title comes direct from the band's Wikipedia. An alternate discsplit can be after Cometary and before the audience track, with the first disc clocking in at 76 minutes and the second a bit under 12, for any Philler Phanatics still burning to CD-R. MINI BIO: "Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. (and subsequent offshoots) is a Japanese psychedelic band founded in 1995 by members of the Acid Mothers Temple soul-collective. The band is led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto and early in their career featured many musicians but by 2004 the line-up had coalesced with 4 core members and frequent vocal guests. The band have a reputation for phenomenal live shows, and releasing frequent albums on a number of international record labels, as well as the Acid Mothers Temple family record label which was established in 1998 to document the activities of the whole collective." - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia which every 14 year old has edited. BAND PAGE: http://www.acidmothers.com SHOW NOTES: AMT in D.C. is always surprisingly satisfying, and tonight's no exception. Some real nice unexpected elements in the setlist - Son of a Bitches Brew leading us off, and what may be the debut performance of Skilfiul Grinning Skull in the encore slot (though I could swear I've heard the main riff at another AMT show - possibly just the result of the riff buring itself so deep inside my nubile teenaged psyche). Hard to really come up with satisfying notes for a show this solid. Nothing weak to rip on, nothing exceedingly bizarre about the journey (sure, the subway was ass-backwards broken thanks to perpetual track maintenance and equally-perpetual incredibly vague and shitty communication, but that's far from bizarre), even the openers were both incredibly, incredibly solid. Just a nicely representative example of the Acid Mothers playing Acid Mothers songs at an Acid Mothers show. REQUESTS & REMINDERS: Do not sell this recording. Do not buy this recording.
