Mic position (for most of the show): The mic was taped upon the FX rack of the mixing island. That rack is 2,5 meters high, and stands next to the soundboard on the right side (as seen from behind the desk). About approx. 16 meters from the stage. Because the mic was not exactly in the center of the P.A., I pointed it slightly to the right. Mic position was changed during show, please read notes. Line up: Efrim: Guitar, Vocals Sophie: Violin, Trumpet, Glasses, Vocals Beckie: Cello, Vocals Thierry: Contrabass, Glasses, Harmonica, Vocals Ian: Guitar, Harmonium, Vocals Jessica: Violin, Piano, Glasses, Vocals Scott: Drums, Percussion, Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals Notes: Thanks to ASMZ & their soundman for helping me setting up my gear. This was a decent show w/ quite some funny moments. This is the second asmz show of this tour that I recorded, the first one being: http://www.archive.org/details/asmz_2006-05-02_aud2.flac16 I stress that if you're not specifically interested in this show, but rather want to download a good asmz show from this tour you better get that one first! The perfomance & sound of the luxembourg show were just better. During the first track my recorder lost power due to a bad connection with the powersocket. And I had forgotten to charge its battery the night before... But I noticed this quite quickly, resulting in about 30 to 40 secs missing. Then, during the 2nd song the house-engineer of Paradiso started freaking out when he spotted my mic against the pillar, claiming it could not stand gaffer tape (which was hardly believable, as it was made of massive stone, but ok), and ordered it to be removed right away. Radwan backed me up though, and convinved the guy to wait untill the end of the song. I took my mic off the pillar after the 2nd song and placed it on the FX-rack, this time at the right side of the pillar. Hoping for the best. Later on, when I started mastering, the difference was very obvious. The first 25 minutes sounded a bit more punchy and direct than the rest. So I mastered both parts differently, and adjusted them to each other, as far as possible. This especially helped the 2nd part a lot. I carefully edited the cut in the first song together, intending to make it run as smoothly as possible. I think it works to a certain level. I used a bit of both multiband & full-range compression. To make the sound somewhat more "smoother" during the loud parts, and to make the quietest passages a little bit louder. Also some eq-ing was done. Apart from what I adjusted with the Multiband compressor, I cut around the 370 Hz & 1 kHz w/ a medium Q using the UAD EX, and added a touch of 60 Hz with a large Q using the UAD pultec. The compression has been applied carefully. Limiting only to cut a few peaks. No loud, louDER, LOUDEST macho mastering. Enjoy, Prof. Stoned. *** Please do NOT sell this to hungry fans.*** *** Please do NOT re-seed this WITHOUT this info sheet or the FFP and MD5. If you keep the map intact, other people will be able to help you seeding.*** *** Please do ENJOY the music. :-) ***
