Jon Langford: vocals, acoustic guitar Jean Cook: violin, backing vocals On October 29, the documentary film "Revenge of the Mekons" by Joe Angio began a five-day run at the Film Forum, and co-founding Mekon Jon Langford flew in from Chicago for the occasion. Not to let an opportunity to perform go to waste, he also booked a show at the Bell House, which turned to be just him and frequent collaborator Jean Cook (who was, as Jon put it, "11 months pregnant" at the time) doing a set of solo Jon songs, Mekons songs, Waco Brothers songs, Killer Shrews songs, and almost-all-Australian covers. It was a smallish crowd, so Jon and Jean gathered in the front room of the Bell House, which for sets like this arguably has better sound than the big, booming back room anyway. This was recorded from dead center about ten feet back from the stage area, and came out very nicely, with only one or two songs featuring the drunk couple in front of me yammering to each other over the music. Buy all of Jon's records, especially the excellent new "Here Be Monsters," which features the even more excellent "Drone Operator," which is featured in a still more excellent video, viewable here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJO6KR5A9wg
