Taper Notes:
View NotesI spent an indordinate amount of time scrubbing an absurd amount of loud local claps, whistles, yells, etc. from this recording for all of our listening pleasure -- approximately 379 from the first set and 162 from the 2nd set. * = w/Huey Lewis on harmonica + = w/Huey Lewis on vocals ^ = Marc Brownstein replaces Ryan Sastik on bass, Aron Magner joins on additional keys # = Joe Russo replaces Kris on drums ~ = w/"Circus Music" tease at 3:03 % = w/Nelly McKay on vocals This was a late night post-Jammies performance, hence all of the special guests Recorded, transferred (6/12/2012), tracked (6/4-9/2015), and mastered (5/30-6/4/2015,11/6/2015,10/25-11/3/2019), and posted (11/26/2019) by Scott Bernstein Special thanks to Jeremy Welsh for validating my tracking/setlist Taper notes: Interestingly enough, I started working on this BARN series (now #197) back in June of 2015. Apparently I got a portion of the way through, but then got distracted by a couple of things -- a new job that I started in Dec 2015, and the birth of Evie in November 2015 (the last date of one of these files that I had worked on was 11/6/2015, and Evie was born on 11/12!). So, somehow the fact that I had started working on this one had gotten lost in the shuffle until I was searching around for some files on a drive with a bunch of my archival transfers. When I picked this one back up 4 years later in 2019, it was no "walk in the park" -- this recording was riddled with a TON of nearby loud clappers, yellers, whistlers, "woo"-ers, etc. It took a week of toiling away at these files to get them up to my standards. I hope you appreciate what I've done. Onto the show -- what a performance this was! It was a very late night show after The Jammy Awards (I skipped the actual Jammies and went straight to this show), and as one might expect, the band brought a few of their friends down to the show with them. 2 Disco Biscuits, Joe Russo, quirky singer-songwriter Nelly McKay, and HUEY LEWIS! I was a pretty big fan of his in 1983/1984 (though I can't say I'd thought about him often since then -- unless I'm watching a Back To The Future movie...), but there was something about his sit-in that got me REALLY excited, and I can vividly remember how much nostalgic fun I had while the band was covering his songs "Bad Is Bad" and "Heart and Soul". Amazing stuff! Other notes that I can recall -- this was my first time hearing "Women Wine And Song" and I was 100% sure it was a Little Feat song I'd just never heard before. Not all sit-ins are magical. This band was a lot looser back then. Then again, this was a really late night show...and I'm sure everyone had a few drinks by this point. What a night... Enjoy!
