Tim Vega was a visual artist (formerly "graffiti artist") who designed the band logo for Blues Traveler, their first album cover, various Govt Mule logos and album covers, the outdoor (and indoor) art at the Wetlands music club--including the bus, and various other jamband-related stuff. When he died in 2002 Suzanne Vega (his half-sister) organized 3 memorial concerts and a show of his artwork at the HERE Arts Center. The 12/6 concert featured Jaik Miller, Suzanne Vega, and a solo Warren Haynes set. The 12/7 concert featured Jaik Miller (of Xanax 25) and Suzanne Vega. The final night of was the one that I attended, and it was stacked with a who's-who of old-time Wetlands acts that Tim worked with-- a solo Chris Barron (Spin Doctors) set, an acoustic duo Joan Osborne set, a very brief Suzanne Vega duet (with her bassist), and a John Popper solo set. As the headliner on this night, John Popper got the longest set, and had everyone (except for Suzanne) sit in with him (including Todd Horton, trumpet player who sat in with Chris Barron too). At the beginning he freely admits that he had a terrible night's sleep the previous night...but he put on a very nice (and chatty) performance. Sweet Pain and 100 Years from the first Blues Traveler album are always welcome -- especially when Joan Osborne sits in exactly as she did on that album. Chris Barron and Todd Horton sit in for a very extended take on Alone, a rare take on the song Pretty Angry (itself a tribute to Bobby Sheehan). Enjoy!
