View NotesThe Jed Luckless Band returns to the Jedstead stage to perform in Secondlife at Nantucket Yacht Club! It's the first of a three show "JLB March Madness" run at the venue in March 2018 (it was meant to be four shows, but the original opener was cancelled due to a power outage at the studio). The band is joined once again by Mike the Percussionist, who played with them previously at "Purple Rain." With three winter storms in two weeks, "The Freeze" seems like the obvious opener, and the band launches in hot to warm things up instantly. The Mark Gutenplan song "Englishtown" is up next, this version showcasing the tune's strong vocals and paired with an instrumental version of the Beatles "Dear Prudence." The Luckless originals "Sugar Pop" and "Brother Love" are paired with one of the highlight jams of the night, followed by a combo of the Kenny Kaufman tune "Saw Mill River" and Jed's "Far Gone Blues" to wrap up the first set. Set two opens with a hesitant "Still In Luv With U" that the band opens into the second longest jam of the night, finding their way into the hymn like "Listen To The Angels." The band takes a moment to sing Happy Birthday to a fan celebrating her 10th "rez" day in Secondlife, before launching into "Give It Back." The hard driving rock original gives way to a middle eastern vibe as it segues into "Valley of The Saints," followed by a drum segment featuring Pete Martine and his pal Mike on the congas, bongos and other percussion. It's a highlight of the show, but it's too brief, and the Grateful Dead's "Cold Rain And Snow" blows in to take over. Mark's "Remember This Night" features an energetic jam section that erupts into a hoppin fast "Used To Be Good" to close the set. The Velvet Underground's "Rock And Roll" grabs the encore slot to end the evening. It's another fun, energetic and rockin' show from the hottest jamband on the grid. Unfortunately the recording from this show is also "hot" throughout, with some overmodulation of the low end that deters just a bit from an otherwise fantastic performance that's definitely worth a listen...enjoy!
