7" two track BBD reel w/ Dolby A @ 7 1/2 ips > PCM501ES (beta) > PCM501ES analog out > Dolby A decoder > Apogee filter > analog in PCMF1/PCM501ES analog out > Fostex D5 @ 48 kHz > WBOTB Master DAT (DAT-1).
Lineage:
Jace's DAT (48 KHz) playback on Sony PCM-R500, AES digital output > Benchmark DAC1, XLR analog output > Grace Lunatec V3, sample rate at 96 KHz, AES digiout) > AES digital input, professional mode/sync - LynxTwo soundcard in E6400 dual core processor-based PC > HD as 24 bit/96 KHz WAV > Ozone 3.0 > MBIT+ dithering to 16/44.1 KHz WAV > CDWAV 1.9 (tracking) > FLAC (level 8). Recording, editing and mastering with Wavelab 5.0. All cables were Mogami Gold 0.3m pro-audio XLR cables. All components in the transfer/mastering chain were powered from a Cyberpower 1285AVR noise-attenuated uninterruptible AC power supply.
Taper Notes:
View NotesThere are two anomalous frequency peaks throughout both sets and on previous sources. The first is centered between 7 and 8K with a second between 15.5 and 16.3K. The exact frequencies varied between each song during the first set while there were only differences between reel flips in the second set. This required mastering each section with a separate Waves Q10 paragraphic eq setting with supernotch set for the involved frequencies. Also there is some degradation in tape quality around the margins of the tape flip during Wharf Rat. The flip in Wharf Rat was crossfaded. All editing and mastering was done on 24/96 file sets prior to cd-audio rendering with MBIT+.

Lineage:
SBD > Dolby A Reel > Dolby A decode > DAT > Sound Forge NR > CD-R
Taper Notes:
View NotesSBD -> Dolby A Reel -> Dolby A decode -> DAT -> Sound Forge NR -> CD-R; apparently sourced from previously-circulating Leigh Orf seed, with possible additions by Jason Lunz; note d2,3 have same md5s as previous copy, but d1 md5s are different. The Sound Forge noise reduction was used to attenuate a very narrow frequency band (in the vicinity of 8000 Hz) which was present as interference on the original reels. See http://members.home.net/orf/notch.html for details.

View NotesNotes: - This recording does not match the one found on ID-123830/123885. - Antique tape, runs the gamut of issues: speed variations, drop-outs, garbled passages; most adjusted, some not repairable. - Missing about 90-seconds in the China Cat > IKYR transition jam; also, tape stopped briefly at start of SSDD - All tracks start & end abruptly as the taper operated the recorder, with a few seconds missing in most cases. - THANKS to Doug Rice for the expert transfer to WAV from old shedding, mildewed reels!
