Taper Notes:
View NotesTotal time: 1:22:40 * = onstage power failure — monitors and amps died + = appears to be first known performance of this Dylanesque song Taper notes: Continuing my run-through of my entire God Street Wine archive, for BARN245 I present to you a very nice single set performance that GSW did outdoors at CW Post College in Long Island on April 23, 1995. This show is somewhat interesting in that this was their second College performance of the day (with an earlier set at SUNY Albany's "Party In The Park")...which makes for a fun time as the band was already well-warmed up -- and repeats no songs from their earlier performance (which can be heard here https://archive.org/details/gsw1995-04-23.early.lemire.flac1648). Still riding the wave of their major label release "$1.99 Romances", the band is still at the top of their game in this performance. While there are 2 previously posted recordings of this show, both are inferior due to cassette generation(s) that exist in their lineage. This recording is fully digital with no cassette generations in there. Also, one of the versions of this recording has "Mr. Big Potato" mislabeled as "Fortress of Solitude". The band really give it their all in the time they were allotted (based on the stage banter from Lo, it seems that they went beyond their expected performance time and continued to play with no stage lighting -- just the headlights from their van illuminating the stage!). Warming up with their take on Pachelbel's "Canon in D" before kicking into gear with "Molly". A great run through "Hungry Again", "Epiphany", "Bring Back The News", and "Upside Down+Inside Out" bring us up to two extremely rare originals for the fans: "Nothing Left to Lose" and the great "Mr. Big Potato" (which is interrupted by an on-stage power failure -- which has no effect on the main PA speakers, so we get an extremely rare Tomo drum solo while the power issues are worked out). "6:15" and "Crashing Down" wrap up the main jams of the show before the band bring out what seems to be the very first public performance of the Dylanesque original "Which Way Will She Go?" and their relatively new "Twitchin'". Pretty great little single set afternoon/evening outdoor performance on a BEAUTIFUL spring day. I personally was compelled to attend this show as the location (CW Post College) is famous as the location where Bruce Springsteen's cover of "Santa Claus is Coming To Town" was recorded back in 1975!
