Dear Leader 2009-10-02 The Paradise Rock Club Boston, MA Tape: SP-TFB-2s with a battery box into MZ-S1 MD (Type R ATRAC, SP mode), 16Hz bass rolloff Transfer: Analog out to Realtek ALC662, mastered in Audacity and output to WAV-->Split FLACs Show notes: The Paradise is a strange venue, even by Boston standards, it has an upper walkaround balcony on the left, right, and rear, and bandstand style VIP seating on the left and right sides. The main stage is wide and the standing audience area is very wide and shallow, with large concrete pillars, including one at audience center, about three or four feet from the stage. Still, it's one of the older surviving rock venues in Boston, in an era when many of the old clubs are shutting down, and the more popular clubs are in Cambridge. The last time I saw Dear Leader was at the Boston Avalon Ballroom (now turned into a relatively bland House of Blues) in 2006 or so, when they headlined the Best Music Poll. It was an incredible experience. The Paradise is a smaller venue, but more familiar to Dear Leader and Aaron Perrino's former band, The Sheila Divine. The night's openers were The First Day of Summer and Boston's old-scenester Bleu, but people were here to hear Aaron's incredible voice belt out his classic songs of young-unlove and revolution, every one an anthem. No one was disappointed. This was a CD release party, and about half the setlist was made up of songs from the new album.
