View NotesPlayers: Charles Atkins - keyboards and vocals The Blues Boys Larry Laseur - harmonica Harty Wiedemann - guitar, $ vocals Tom Henning - guitar with Brian Baker on drums Highlights: Tracks 5, 11, 14 I don't think there was a bass player tonight so Charles covers the bass part on keyboards. Old-fashionished Rockin' - Mix is off at first, drums too hot. Guess I missed the first take as Charles asks, and then does it again. Blues is Alright - another of those endless songs the band would play; this version actually features Tom on a solo @ 4:00 and Larry gets to sing some which he always enjoyed, good juxtaposition to Charles. CC Ryder - slow placed blues. At the end you hear Harty talking about a set list so I assume practice was to work out some tunes for upcoming gig. Even tho they are just running thru covers, there is a lot of energy. Everybody Wanna Go to Heaven - another slow blues number, then too slow and Charles stops and starts over. This and the next - Everyday I Have the Blues - are well done. Track 7 is the shortest version of FlipFlopFly ever, 30 seconds. What's neat is when Brian hears something and kicks up the beat. Must be break time as Charles starts noodling, working out a tune - On Judgement Day. My notes only mention it as a Denny Lee song. Green Grass is one of the first tunes I remember the band doing back before I got involved as sound man and all. This is followed by Charles and the Boys discussing how to end a song; wish I had caught more of it. Seems like the talk did some good as they go full out with the next tune with everybody on. Track 12 is a Harty song and the tape runs out - blessedly. Knock on Wood - some more soul that keeps on going; Larry on cowbell which gives him a bit of a break from blowing on the longer tunes like this. Track 14 - I think Charles is making this up on the spot and then gets Larry to play with him. He may be playing harp on a vocal mic which he did sometimes on the softer songs. Track 15 has guitar & drums added but it sorta falls apart altho Charles sure enjoys it! Sounds like I got a late start on track 16 but that's OK as they are just screwing around with it. The night closes with Lovelight - gee, this spirited take is only 7 minutes. As Charles says: " Yeah I know, I wasn't thru." This concludes the first case of 15 tapes; don't worry, there are a few more cases to go but I haven't decided whether to go ahead to the end in '93 or start back in '92. There are also 4 cases of live recordings of varying quality to sort thru.
