Everyone is running thru the board this time; like you can actually hear Tom on rhythm guitar (especially on Lovelight, and I believe that is him taking lead on Stand by Me). Overall, it sounds like I had the vocals panned right; keyboards, harp and bass/drums centered; and guitars left. For some reason, I panned the board back to mono on the last song - such an amateur, I had probably just noticed and changed it mid-song. The sound board was a 16-4-2 metered Yamaha. You could group the 16 channels to 4 subgroups and then out with 2 mains. So anyway, after digitizing, I have dropped the guitars some to balance with the vocals, and I imagine that if I had better software, I could even center the vocals. All of these songs are well-done, sure wish I had the full recording of this night. News Is Bad stands out and got the loudest cheers. This may be the last gig where Charles had just the Casio and no Rhodes. But the Casio never sounded better. (By the way, thanks for the loaner DL; and did you ever get your keyboard back? : ) And if you download the insert that went with the mix tape, you'll see that included a few songs from Charles at practice playing the Rhodes for the first time on 7-16-92. 11-17-07 Coming up next is 2 tapes from one night at the fabulous but short-lived Biminis. And then I may go back to scanning more practice sessions from 92-93... Enjoy! - SCopeland --
